Interview with Daniel R. editor of transylvanian forest web-zine. done by patrick

1.Hello Daniel how is your new year starting out? please tell the readers a little about yourself.
I am a nice guy I guess haha you can call me Danny, but yeah, I run Transylvanian Forest E-zine, and I am thy kreator ov thee notorious band in the world! Strings Of Distorted Doom. I also have side bands too. haha

2.When did you first get into metal? who were some of the first bands you listened to? who are some of your "current" favorites?

My first metal album has got to have been Metallica's ...And Justice For All on cassette tape, when I was 12yrs of age. Then the world of metal came to my ears, and been involved with it ever since. Only if Metallica didnt get worse as I got older haha then came Slayer, and Death, and etc etc etc Bathory ov course. Um I have many favs right now, but I am on a vinyl rampage lately, Thin Lizzy, Sunn O))), Children Of Bodom, Grand Funk, um, Hawkwind, Motorhead, David Gilmours s/t LP is always on play, Electric Wizards new album sounds amazing, Ministry is a favorite of mine, many underground bands I hear today and associate with. They know who they are.

3.When did you get the idea to create "transylvanian forest web-zine"? how did you come up with the name of your web-zine? are you happy with how things are going so far?

E-zine, web-zine, the same to me. Been online since last march I think. Necrowulf and I thought of making the e-zine, but Necrowulf is busy with life at the moment, so I am running it on my own right now. Its running great, just hard to manage right now, computer troubles, and such. Busy with my side bands right now, so their is a bit of a delay in new reviews/interviews right now. They will be settled as soon as I can. Seems like something new comes up everyday for me, so its hard to manage, might take a break eventually just so I can focus on music, but the e-zine is here, for now... haha

4.Do you work on the zine alone or do you some friends who help write for the zine? are you currently looking for new "writers" for the zine or do you prefer to work alone?

I do it 110% all by myself right now, I post exclusives, do reviews, do SPECIAL INTERVIEW videos, I done one for Kris Tilbury, it worked! http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FWI98H60 typed interviews, and it may be possible to do future bands as well this way by video. Well may it be hard copy, cds, tapes, or downloads which I prefer less, they usually get stored in my tf ezine folder on my music documents, and they stack up so they usually get done after hard copies. I would like some help, on the downloadable albums, its becoming a bit too much, so it would be nice if someone can review 50% of them, but I am very I should say picky right now, I have the mindset, if you want things done right, you must do them yourself like usual, but if someone asked me, we could. Plus bands dont want me to spread their music around which is another factor, so I would really have to trust the guy. I mean what if he owns a label, and starts releasing the album to make profit? People can be scumbags.

5.Who are some of your favorite fan/web-zines? in your eyes what makes a good web/fanzine? would you have any advice for someone who is thinking of starting up their own web-zine?

AEA zine is a great zine for starts, I just had a interview with Dave, that will be in issue 18# of his zine, and my other advertisements. Funeral Rain Zine, Dustin Wade does alot for that zine, and has a printed issue I think? Wish I had his work ethnic for a zine like he does, but I try my best. Ble of CTD zine thailand, he runs a great zine too, lots of respect to him. Your zine is pretty well developed too by the way :) their is so many out there on this big ball we call Earth.

6.What styles of metal do you mainly support/cover within transylvanian forest web-zine? is their any certain styles you refuse to review/cover? if any bands or labels are reading this how can they contact you for possible reviews, interviews etc.?

I can review anything really, black metal, death metal, metal, grind, industrial, noise, doom metal, drone, atmospheric, punk, crust hardcore, progressive, lots more. I just do not want to review bands or interview them if they come off as assholes, or their egos are big, or they think mainstream music is where its at, 90% of the bands on Roadrunner now maybe haha but yeah I like alot of styles of music, and would like to try and play them all. It depends on my mood too really. I also do interviews for alt models, and do exclusives for labels, shops, and anything I find interesting. Just nice people really, and if their music is not as dark or heavy as most, I can help them out and give them a promo still. If I like you too, and you come off as a good person, that is a plus. I just do not do many core bands really, that are taking over right now, they need to realize where music comes from, like the old edge style is back, and that is what should be accepted, sick of watching Mtv2 or fuse and seeing these bands. What happened to originality? I like some new bands today, but most of them I can live with out, or rooted out of my liking just because they do not appeal to me anymore. Everyone knows what I mean. They could contact me by email, or message me on one of the sites, I do not want to give out my email, unless they message me and ask. The main site now is at http://tfezine.blogspot.com and the other sites are http://www.myspace.com/transylvanianforestezine and the facebook and twitter are at http://twitter.com/#!/Forestezine & http://www.facebook.com/update_security_info.php?wizard=1#!/profile.php?id=100001639820751 and they can hit me up there. I get mail from all over the world, so feel free to mailbox me a tape, demo, album, cd, vinyl, anything, I can play them. They can ask me for my home address to send me a hard copy if they like.

7.You live in the great city of new york i know over the years new york has had a great black and death scenes. so i was curious what is your opinion of new york's metal scene?

Well depends on which part of New York you are from. I live in Catskill, NY right now, the area sucks, and my band basically rules over any band around here really hahaha and yeah I am originally from Lagrange NY, just 10 mins from Poughkeepsie, they got more of a core/hardcore/death metal scene right now. Nothing Black or Death really now. Maybe 10 years ago, or maybe underground, but nothing much really. The city has good shows, just I would have to take a train, and see them. It can be costly too. I have not been to a show in 2 years, so I am not a show goer really right now. Rather try to save my money towards other things, like new equipment or shirts/vinyl. If someone cool came by, like Dark Tranquility, or someone I like, I try to go, but not one of my missions right now like it use to be. I seen my share of many great live acts, including Celtic Frost. But so far this area sucks, and I want to move back to my hometown. No opportunity here. Random Person says : "Hey the mountains are marvelous in Catskill!" 2nd Random Person says " but do you have a job living here?" Random Person says " No..." haha it sucks here.

8.Who are some of your all-time favorite metal bands from new york? are their any new bands you feel the readers should watch out for?

Demolition Hammer, Brutal Truth, Carnivore (R.I.P. Mr.Steele) Blue Oyster Cult hehe, um... Vanilla Fudge hahaha! I got a few of their vinyls, they suck haha, Suffocation rules, God Forbid hahahaha! fuck those guys, they are from Jersey, and you know what people think of Jersey that are from New York haha not alot of good bands unfortunately from NY man except the few I did not make fun of. That is mostly the reason why I want to move to the bay area so badly, they love Strings Of Distorted Doom there! or the South Pole so my band can just completely rule the whole continent. (lol) Their is a lot of good underground bands now, from all over, you can spot them all on my main site at http://tfezine.blogspot.com Sweden kicks New Yorks ass times 1000.
(I was kidding about Vanilla Fudge, they aint that bad. VANILLA FUDGE, THE BEAT GOES ON... hahaha!!!! )
9.Besides bands are their any good/honest labels you could recommend?

Satanica Productions, underground label, they are great. Xan is a smart guy, and knows his shit. Um alot of label are rip offs so I m not sure. I can name a few more, October Mist Records, Depressive Illusion Records seems cool, hmmmm, not too many bud.

10.In your opinion what does the term "underground metal" mean to you?
It means nobody likes you hahaha I m just kidding. It means you are not as recognized, or accepted as the bands of today and I believe soon the undergound will take over. Labels are corrupt, and many bands will die out eventually, except Slayer! they will be in wheelchairs and still kick ass hahaha but on a serious note, I think the underground has alot to offer, but most prefer to stay underground because they are just like you and me. They arent sell outs either. They are hard working, honest people, with many hopes and dreams. I think they all deserve to be raised up high on my shoulders! if I can pick them up haha they are just great, really, really great. Underground Metal is great, but their is some bigger bands I do like and respect.

11.Besides transylvanian forest web-zine. i know you are also working on some side-projects and bands. could you please tell the readers a little about them. Where can interested fans find your bands releases and merch?

My side bands... my first side band is called Frozen Cadaver, started around the same time I started S.O.D.D. and I got some other projects. Close To Perfection, Grim Funeral Techno, and soon a 2 new projects yet to be revealed. I work with people online mostly for these side bands. Frozen Cadaver just might become my only side band that will become a gigging band. Strings Of Distorted Doom is my main thing, and will become the one that hits the top! So these side bands are just my outlet for other styles of music I want to dwell in, and have fun with. They are all being worked on slowly day in, day out, while I am doing the e-zine, so their goes my stress to the roof. Frozen Cadaver is me and Steve Casiano ( we use to live by each other in Lagrange) and session drummers, Neil Schneider on our cover track of Soulfly NO HOPE = NO FEAR, and Lucas Happensack will be doing the rest of the 2nd ep on drums since Neils drum kit is put away for the winter. Frozen Cadaver is Gore/Death/Grind metal, and my 2nd one is Close To Perfection. It is Necrosadik (mexico) and I. We are working on finishing up our 1st full length Purity Lost and had Lord Azordon contribute to a track on acoustic guitar, all by email. I may ask a special lady to contribute vocals to a track, and we have a 1st ep and split cd we done with Ablaze Eternal called Traces Of Pain Became Rivers Of Fire & Blood (cds are 7$ from me, 5 are left, and Necrosadik has copies too). CTP is ambient/acoustic/drone/experimental, very dark stuff. Grim Funeral Techno was started on Halloween by me a few months ago, a industrial/techno/noise project. Still working on finishing up the 1st demo for it by the way. Working on 3 side bands, and 2 yet to be revealed for this year. Grim Funeral Techno also has 2 members I work with, Dracolord of ex-Ssunfuck and Ryan Wrigley of Dark Theory. A split cd for Grim Funeral Techno with Schizophrenia (Ablaze Eternals project) should be coming out shortly called Techno Noise Apocalypse. I am always busy hahah Here is the links for my side bands...

12.When not working on music or doing work on your web-zine. what do you enjoy doing in your spare-time?

I help my family at home, my parents are good people, should be on my own soon, as soon as I can maintain a living on my own, this world is tough, but I do what I can every day. I like video games, tv, music, collecting vinyl, cds, tapes, seeing my best friends, smoke, um, many things. I like the Ufc and anything MMA related, or fighting really. Horror/Sci-Fi, stuff like that. Depends on what goes on through out the day or what I planned out. Go online, see how everyone is doing. Glad people respect what I do, and I respect them as well. Great people out there. Just the norm of everyday life. I am just like everybody else really. I like comics, and graphic novels. I love the movies, and spaceing out looking at the stars wondering what my purpose is in life... I am nobody special, just a laid back, sometimes fast talking, beer drinking, limousine driving! jet flying! just kidding, just a cool dude I think hahaha I enjoy life, and make the best of it. Family, friends, music, fellow bands, and living is the most important things to me. That pretty much sums up me. I hope to meet all my fellow bands soon, and do what I love to do, make music, and support bands, and just live it.

my vinyls !!! ;)

13.Well Daniel we have reached the end of the interview. thanks alot for taking time to fill this out. good luck with transylvanian forest.
do you have any final comments?

Do you really have to call me Daniel, Patrick? hahahaha just kidding, your the man. I thank you very much for this interview, it is only my 2nd interview, and I like your work. I want people to buy my cds, support the underground, spread the word of the transylvanian forest e-zine, and stay true to who you are, and dont let the powers that be control you. Just be you. Thank you very much, I hope we can do a interview soon with my side bands, or on S.O.D.D. or on anything else soon. Its been fun. Stay True Patrick, I got more things to do, and I will be in touch. Anything is possible, as long as you put your mind to it, or something like that... hahaha! :) Thanks to everyone! Later -D

26z : iNURE: A Vision Of Endearment review (new)

I got some really dark stuff for you here people, Naive, from Hollywood, CA, a simple man, with many tastes and musical multitalented-ness has a album here of the likes of many industrial metal bands I heard of now, and in the past while growing up, but I have to say this album is pretty unique compared to the majority of industrial bands I know. In its variety, compositions, and its gloomy-ness. The album is beat after beat, effect after effect, and the sound ranges from all sorts of genres, sub-genres, its really hard to label as just being a "industrial metal" band. Very deep, and well thought out songs... idea... (excuse my randomness haha) with a more 80s Skinny Puppy randomization, crossed with early NIN darkness and Kmfdm like electronic sounds with Frontline Assembly vocal attributes, taking all their sound, dumping them in a blender, with Al Jourgensen of Ministry taking a bottle of Jack Daniels, pouring the whole bottle in, and then mixing it again, and pouring it into a very tall glass, with a shot of Absinthe after drinking, and you get this albums sound, flavor, and after taste... or that is what I just think... that must taste good... haha Well as much as I want to drink something while listening to this album, I listened to it sober, and the next time I get a bottle, or tall can, I will listen to it again(and again haha). The songs themselves, are all different in their own way, and each song has something new to offer. Heavy metal sound, extreme metal, hard rock, a little rap, or industrial/ebm/techno, just very wide variety here guys. Production and quality wise it sounds great, not even released yet! and every song has a sound that almost every type of music lover could get into. The darkness and misery that is in it, might not relate to most, but I feel each track as Im listening, while typing this, and I am just mentally sucked in. Music like this is not found out in the open, one must dwell deep in the recesses of the darkest parts of the internet to find it, and I have found it! Or was lead to it by the master mind of it all Naive. I read his life/personal stories online, in emails, back story, really about him, very impressive rep, and very cold and isolated past, he must have had. I feel for the guy, his music, and I think its fucking great what it is that he is doing for the underground. He also has many contacts with artists in the industry, but this does not stop him from helping underground bands, or people of unknown qualities out. He is a messenger from above, and from below, he is the man that wont leave you to die at war, he is the guy, that said, fuck you! to all the corrupted bull shit in this world, and wants to leave a lasting impression on the ones he respects and feels for most before this world is incapable, of having a "hero". He makes each song not too loud, or inaudible, or overwhelming long, he does it just right, and I think the listeners appreciate that as well. Many talents here as well from other bands, but if you read the info below, that should be it right there. The guy makes very original music, and I like it, I think its scary, powerful, bleak, honest, uplifting, soft, and enjoyable all at the same time. I recommend this album to people who can listen to something and keep a clear mind about it, or is open minded to music. Many diehards of only one type of music wont fall in love with this album, but if you like a little bit of everything, I think you will like it very much. The songs are available before it is out and officially released and that is great as well, but please support the artist by buying the albums! We cant survive with out you!!! Thanks for reading, and to sum up this review... These are not just songs, this is not just a album, or a trend, phase, or a one night thing, it is a part of all of us... mentally, physically, emotionally, in every simple, demented, harsh, and even secret part of us... in the images of what we see go on around us everyday in this cruel & empty world... there will always be... a vision of  endearment... -D

INTERVIEW with SOMBER of PLAAG (new)

INTERVIEW with SOMBER of PLAAG!

Welcome to Transylvanian Forest E-zine! how you been?

Thank you mate. Fine thx.

1)When did your band start, and why did you start it?

I started it this project late 2009. I started it because I needed something to vent I suppose.

2)How many members are in the band and what is your role in Plaag?

5 members: Razend on drums and he’s freakin’ awesome on it I might add, Lava on Bass (who also plays in Demonic Empire and Persephone’s Blade and is a very skilled musician and a wonderful dude to hang with), Triest who is the elder of the pack on guitars, talented as fuck and always ready to rock and Mist on 2nd guitar, Mist is like the glam-hair-metal-part of Plaag on stage: plays like hell, loves make up and booze and is always in for a little guitar dance whenever possible. Lastly there’s me Somber, I write and pre-record all the music and lyrics and only handle the vocals live. I also do the artwork, networking stuff and promotional necessities.

3)How long have you been part of the "underground" for?

Almost 20 years since I started listening to underground black metal. A part? Since I started the Plaag project I guess.

4)What other hobbies OR things you like to do besides your work with your band Plaag?

Painting and drawing, designing logo’s if I find the time.

5)How has the fan reaction been so far to your unreleased album Ugh! ?

The people who’ve heard it so far are very positive. The songs are online already because Misantrof Antirecords offers the album as a free download as well anyway and I never bothered to keep the songs hidden. I love instant feedback since I’m totally new at songwriting and feel I have a lot to learn in order to master the art of making the most headbangable in your face filthy rock songs ever. You can already listen to it on the Misantrof website but only from January 30th the songs will be downloadable for free. Yes for free J

6)Is this your first album? or do you have demos and such before that? any previous or past bands?

First album ever and also the last album ever as a solo musician. This album was recorded by myself in my house on a very cheap portable studio and with absolutely no budget. Vrangsinn mastered the songs at his house and this album is the outcome. It’s near from perfect. It’s totally not well mixed, I did the best I could - really that’s why I want Plaag to record in a real studio next time and with a real studio engineer because I’m sure that there’s a lot more potential in it than shown on this album –, but it is a 100% honest blackhearted rock and roll album. It needs to be played loud, it has filth, it has nasty written all over it and it’s limited to 200 hand numbered physical copies with a nice 8 page booklet.
The next album will be recorded in a studio with all band members playing their respective instruments and that’s what we hope will be possible by selling these physicals and playing shows. The music will however still be written and pre-recorded by myself since Plaag is still my artistic project. An ongoing painting of sound I think. Or something.

7)What do you think of black metal today, and its importance in your area? or any other area?

Thank you for asking that question but before your readers get the wrong impression, Plaag is not black metal. Plaag is slightly influenced by black metal only out of homage to the genre.
Black metal today to me isn’t among us anymore. For me black metal existed only in the early nineties. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not that typical ‘hey the inner circle was real’ and ‘hey I am true, look at my pins’ kind of black metal freak, I just learned the term ‘black metal’ at an early age and I will always associate that term with the bands that were doing it back then. The Norwegians. Somehow even they themselves don’t seem to be able to get that early chillingly windy feel into it nowadays. Apart from a few that still remain. I still like what they’re doing and it’s nice to see music evolving, that’s not it, but it simply doesn’t qualify to have the term black metal printed on it. But hey, that’s just my opinion.
It’s logical then to say that for me there is no black metal in my area and I don’t think of musical genres as really important matters anyway.

8)How long have you been making music, or listening to music for?

Listening since I can remember, as a kid we owned a record store for a while and I guess it never left me.
Making music for about a year and a half.

9)What bands influenced you the most?

W.A.S.P., Bathory, Darkthrone, Dokken, Motley Crue, Gwar, Judas Priest, Carpathian Forest, Thorns, I, Twisted Sister, Skid Row, King Diamond, Tankard, Carcass, Pantera, Slayer, D.A.D., Tigertailz, Y&T, … dude that list is endless, how can one not be influenced by what he likes and has always been listening to?

10)How long do you think you will be making music for? and what are your goals in the future?

As long as I can afford to and as long as my girl puts up with it haha.
My goals are to have phenomenal wealth and fame of course. You know, the thing Jonathan warns about on Wasps Crimson Idol basically.
Nah, no goals really. As long as I can keep Somber and my private self separated like this it’s ok for me. It’s not easy being schizophrenic you know J and as long as I enjoy myself doing this I will keep on doing it.

11)Any gigs at all soon? and could you soon come to the states!? :)

Plaag is still in training mode for now. We’re planning on taking on gigs starting from March approximately. The rest of the band is now practicing really hard to make everything sound tight and excellent for you to hear when you come to see us. We are however already confirmed for Svartfest 2, a festival in Ostend in Belgium on May 28th.
I would love to come out to the states man. Make the arrangements and we’re there mate. You see, we are currently still looking for a serious management so we can focus on the music only and give it the best we can. It’s sometimes very hard to do everything by yourself you know.

12)I read you are working with Daniel Vrangsinn of the mighty Carpathian Forest!?! how is that and how did you guys end up working together on your album in the first place for the mastering process?

It is very nice and also very welcome for an un experienced musician like myself. It was actually in the very beginning of the project that someone of the staff of Misantrof took notice of the song ‘Black Metal Rising’. It’s a cover version of CCR’s ‘Bad Moon Rising’ but with altered lyrics and a bit more attitude and fun basically. It’s not on the album since Mr. Fogerty of CCR didn’t give permission for it. Which is good, that means I succeeded in raping his song perfectly.
Anyway, we started to have some contact and then Daniel asked me to join in on the Holy anti fucking christmas compilation vol.2 release with a Plaag song. So I made ‘Christmas Time (the birth of a retarded child)’ for it. We kept in contact and I think the whole phylosophy behind Daniel’s Misantrof ANTIrecords is very renewing and might be a very good solution for future bands so I was very happy to jump in.

http://www.misantrof.net/mse/viewPage.php?bandId=825 (DOWNLOAD HOLY FUCKING ANTIchristmas VOLUME III)

13)What is your lyrical content mostly about?

Our fucked up society. In all it’s religious, social, cultural and subcultural layers.

14)Any bands that you like that are around today and part of the underground metal scene? name a few please!

Skitliv, Throne Of Melediction, Beyond The Morninglight is really awesome (and they’re also on Misantrof, so it’s free, but show support if you like them and buy the album anyway J), Godkiller (if he’s still active I don’t know), Arckanum, Taake, , Dehumanation, Shining, Gravdal,   …

15)What do you think could be changed, positive or negative in this world? and what do you think the people of the world should do about it? if anything comes to mind.

Religion should cease existing, now. Birth control is essential. Nature should be given back what is hers. To make it short, mankind should hold back for a change and rethink it’s entire essence in this wonderful cosmos.

16)What is it like in Belgium, and how long have you been living there for? and have you been to other countries as well?

I haven’t ever lived anywhere else so I have nothing to compare to, but it’s ok I guess. Al my money goes to the state but I think that’s what we’re all dealing with. This is a free western country so I am beneficed by that for sure. Too bad we have such a pathetic political ongoing here but at least it feeds Plaag with some lyrical matter for the future.
I have visited Bergen in Norway. To see for myself how the black metal scene is there. I mean you hear and read all sorts of crazy stuff in the media and I figured I needed to see it for myself. The trip was excellent, the people were very nice and welcoming, nature there is breathtaking to say the least and well yes… there is a lot of metal there. Met all kinds of nice and wild characters of the black metal scene and had a hell of a time. It would be truly wonderful to have Plaag perform at Inside or Garage in Bergen.

17)Does your music interfere with your personal life or does it all fall into place?

It’s more of a ranting of an annoying horridly sarcastic evil and sometimes funny entity/alter ego within myself, an otherwise perfectly calm painter. But it all falls into place eventually.

18)What type of music do you think your music is called, and why is it that?

I have no idea what others call it. I like to call it blackhearted rock ‘n roll or hellrock’n roll or something. You know, it is rock ‘n roll music essentially. I mean it are simple rock ‘n roll songs, nothing much to it, but it has a certain ‘stench’ to it. It’s blackened and mean and that’s what rock ‘n roll is to me. You know, it makes you wanna go UGH!
Fuck You Metal is a nice term too, Lava came up with that. You know since this is still the age of terminology it’s fun to come up with these. They don’t mean anything anyway.

19)I like the song Vaderland! what is it about? please explain! :)

It’s actually not my song. I covered it from a song the German band Nordwind released called ‘Vaterland’, they on their part covered it from another band but I can’t remember who. It has a strong sense of patriotism to it, the Nordwind version, and it always hit a sensitive note in me somehow. I mean, the way they bring it sounds so honest and almost frightened. With all the madness going on in this world I kept on hearing it on and on in my head but somehow with another melody. I figured I’d just try to record what I kept on hearing and this song is the result. It was actually the very first recording for Plaag as well. Kind of a tryout song. Out of patriotism, out of fear, out of curiosity? Possibly all of these.

20) Lastly, I like to thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to be my interviewee! and also what do you have to say to your friends? family? fellow bands? and everyone else out their before we close up this interview. Thanks very much Somber! Stay black & cold!!! UGH!!! :) -D

Thank you for the interview, thank you the reader for reading it.
Ban religion, ban fear and be free. And while at it, mix all that with rock ‘n roll!
UGH!

PLAAG - UGH! review (new)

From the coldest and blackest realm of Flanders-Belgium, lies a serpent in the grass, a hellish demonic entity, a man with some good and many very bad intentions... he is Somber Von Plaag! This album is still being worked on so this is a review on what I think of the album so far. His band Plaag is a cross between old edge black metal, 80s worthy, catchy riffs, thrashyness at times, and true as fuck. Dont fuck with this guy, he will rip your freaking head off and drink the blood coming out of your neck in front of your own family hehe. The album is yet to be completely mastered, and ready to go, but overall these tracks sound pretty awesome on their own! Songs ov his own defining "blackhearted rock n roll", (or hellrock n roll) this guy really does deliver. Sombers Out has a catchy groovyness to it, but many extreme black metal elements, and flavor are found in this track. The song My Satan is a representation, of what you on your own believe to be "satan' in so many words. It gives the listeners time to think about these concepts, relate, and which I think are great in his songs.

Not a lot of black metal bands of today delve in the world of imagery/lyrics or anything close to what the old school black metallers have done, but Somber pulls it off in his own blackhearted rock n roll sound really well. Lovers of old Darkthrone, early Bathory, early Mayhem, and even a lot of the new elements of Darkthrone can be found in this piece of musical art. Which is not a bad thing, because guitar solos are incorporated, and the sound is not overwhelming, it just has a flow, and that is what I enjoy about this album. Feel is really important in this style of music, and is also a
anomaly all in its own wickedness. The titles themselves are pretty decent, Silently Beaten To Death, very original, and so is the track. The albums titles such as Steelteethed, and more, the songs just have a real sound, it is what I like the most about the songs. The guitars are not too technical, and the drum patterns fit perfectly in with the music. Real drums too! It is so common to here many BM bands resort to drum machines, or do it purposely, but this band, I dont think so!

The track entitled Christmas Time (The Birth Of A Retarted Child) well lets just sit down and read the title over again hahaha its obvious what it is about, but dont let the title throw you off! More cold and shredding riffs are found. The album does not even come off entirely as punk either, just straight up metal riffs, but very black metal in all its simplicity. I Hear You Weep, has a strong opening of riffs, and double bass with some well played guitar orchestration. The songs length is also short (at the most 5 mins) so dont expect a 10 min epic, just plain good old fashioned black hearted rock n roll. Vaderland, the last track is a instrumental, and strikes a nerve in me. I played it probably 3 times already. Great track. So if any of you non-believers want to hear this album almost completely finished, and unmastered, its here online, go here... http://plaag.misantrof.net/ Daniel Vrangsinn ov the almighty Carpathian Forest is mastering the album for Somber which is a real honor I say. You must be pretty well respected to get those props and support. To sum up this review, check this guys music out, and support the underground! UGH!!! -D

PLAAG

Hellrock'nroll

PLAAG is a one-man band from Flanders - Belgium consisting of one member: Somber.

Plaag plays hellrock'nroll... nasty, mean rock 'n roll with a Black Metal dressing on top.

However at times not to be taken too seriously.

Some songs are meant to provoke, some just for the love of blackhearted rock n' roll and others just to vent hatred towards ignorance, numbness and plain human stupidity.

Nature is the highest power and nature truly has a more important place in my heart than mankind.

Somber.
